Gala Guidelines

1.Please make sure you have signed in for all
your races and check that your name is on the
list for the correct events.

2.Ask your coach or a volunteer if you will be
required to swim as part of a relay team during
the gala and, if so, when the relay will be
swum.

3.Check when your warm up time is and do a
poolside warm up 10min before you have to get in
for you warm up.

4.Keep a record of the events you have entered via
the gala secretary (and bring this record with
you to the gala – some parents write event
numbers on their children’s hands) or, as a last
resort, check when your events are with your
coach or volunteer on race day.

5.Make sure you keep an eye on the events being
swum so you know when your event is approaching,
and listen for when your event is called up for
marshalling.

6.Review your race plan and speak to your coach in
plenty of time before going up for your race.

7.Once you have raced see your coach for race
feedback.

8.Check the results board (if you are not sure
where it is, ask your coach) to see if you have
made the final for your event. Be aware that
swimmers often withdraw from finals, so if you
are a reserve for a final keep checking the
results sheets and keep listening for
announcements to see if you have been called up
for the final.

9.Do not leave poolside for any reason without
asking your coach or a volunteer. Before asking
if you can leave poolside check that you are
definitely not in a final or relay team.

10.Swimmers must wear the full team kit when
attending all swimming competitions (including
swimming caps).

11.Whilst you are wearing the club kit you are
representing Black Lion Swimming Club. As such
you will be expected to behave appropriately in
order to promote the values and professionalism
of our team.
